Biography

Vince Carter was selected to the All-NBA Second Team in 2000-01, following his Third Team selection the previous season. He is an Olympic Gold medalist, the 1999 NBA.com Slam Dunk winner, a two-time NBA All-Star leading vote-getter and the creator of his own charitable foundation, The Embassy of Hope. Carter represented the United States at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia and led the team in scoring (14.8 ppg) while starting in five of eight games.

His acrobatic ability has made him a recognized sporting figure worldwide. The 1999 NBA.com Slam-dunk contest featured three of the most memorable dunks of all time including a between the legs windmill tomahawk. However, to add to his legacy, during the Olympics he jumped directly over a standing 7'2" center from France, Frederic Weis, to throw down what is considered one of basketball's greatest dunks of all-time.

Carter earned Schick Rookie of the Year honors in 1998-99 after averaging 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.54 blocks and 1.10 steals for the Toronto Raptors. The 2001 season was his finest yet as he came within inches of leading the Raptors to the Eastern Conference Championship after missing a buzzer beating jump-shot in game 7 of the Conference Semifinals.

Selected fifth overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 1998 NBA Draft as an early candidate out of North Carolina, Carter was immediately traded to the Raptors along with cash for the rights to college teammate Antawn Jamison, the fourth overall selection in the draft.

The 2001 summer featured Vince Carter's first ever "Summer Jam" in Toronto where he hosted a week-long series of events that raised funds for the Embassy of Hope foundation and the Raptors Foundation.
